Hello,

I am looking to buy a tractor later this year and I'm really considering a Kioti. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska and we only have a Kubota and John Deere dealership local. The closest Kioti dealer is 350 miles from me if I needed warranty work done. There is not a lot of farming around Fairbanks mostly mining and construction so there is not a big market for tractors. With that being said both local dealers are not user friendly to the small guys and could really care less since they have all the big million dollar companies as customers.

I have been doing some looking around for a 35 - 40 hp tractor with a loader and backhoe attachment. This is the following price quotes I was given. All prices are for open cab tractors with no other add-ons.

Kioti CK3510HST - $29,500
Kubota L3901 - $40,000
JD 3039R - $47,000

Also, the tractor will be used mostly for plowing snow and dirt work around my house and my sons house. Thanks for any advice and your thoughts about my situation/prices.

I have also been looking at the CK3510 hst and was quoted $28,000 with factory cab and loader. I would say that your price is pretty high.

You need to consider freight costs so that price is probably quite OK. You would probably need a cab up there especially clearing snow. brrrrr

I just don't understand why the other 2 are $10 - $17K more.

I will probably build my on cab later on. I would like a factory cab but all the glass scares me. They put so much gravel d own on the roads here, I'm afraid it would get busted trailering it around. But far the being it will be open cab so I will just have to put my big boy pants on and suck it up.

I did get several quotes from down in the states for the following but the prices don't include travel expenses for the trip which would be at least 6000 miles to the nearest state. All the prices from 3 states averaged around $34,5000 for:

Kioti CK3510HST
Loader
Backhoe
Rear grader blade
Trailer (to haul everything back)

Welcome to the world of Kubota and JD. That's the reality with regards to cost. I got prices in UT, OR, WA ID and CA in the last 6 months for the same items. Kioti is a good brand and should provide years of good service. The decision to travel will be up to you. If you are capable and willing to do your own service that helps. Plus your Kioti dealer will need to be willing to help over the phone for the standard items- this probably isn't his first rodeo with regards to distant sales. Make sure to get the full shop service manual as well.

I also talked to a Kioti dealer in Juneau, Alaska (650 miles) and the guy was really nice. He said he would work with me the best he could, he would send me warranty parts that I needed if I would be willing to help some on the shipping costs. I think that's fair since I live so far from him. Plus he said if I needed to take it in to a shop they may be able to help with labor cost some.

I have a mechanic background and turned wrenches for a living for a long time. I'm a maintenance supervisor now but still remember. I'm not new to tractors since I grew up in MS Delta land where we had a farm along with everyone else. We also work on several JD's, Ford and 1 Kubota tractors at my work.

One thing I don't know is if the Kioti can be plugged into a "standard" OBD2 code reader. It is my understanding the Mahindra can and I was told by the Kubota dealer they needed a dealer only code reader. That would make some of the diagnosis easier in the future.

Good information and I will have to check into that. I have a Code Reader.

This is what I posted regarding the Mahindra vs Kubota. The feature set between the Mahindra and Kioti is near identical. From memory the Kioti doesn't have tilt wheel. Other than that very similar. I realize a Mahindra is out as they don't have dealers up there. This is more about the Kubota than anything else-

Edited quote:

I have the 15xx series and looked multiple times at the L series Kubota. My purchase was made in the last 6 months with research for the last 10-12 months. The 15xx series is considered the "premium" line for Mahindra. The tilt wheel, speed control, loader control location are just a few examples. The L series, by comparison, is a very basic model with few frills. No tilt wheel, mid PTO, bucket level indicator, speed control, etc. The L series doesn't even come with SSQA or adjustable sway control links on the 3 pt. I wanted to like the Kubota so bad but the L series is lacking. To me all their R&D has gone to other lines and products and the current L series is overdue. Also look the machines' specs like weight and lifting capacity. note the Kubota needs spacers in the rear if you want to run chains.

To me it came down to paying more for less features and specs so I had the Kubota name or going Mahindra.

The Max line is similar to the B series Kubota so I only briefly looked at those. I have heard good things about the Max and several owners are on this site. I'm sure one will weigh in with regards to that model. From what I saw the B series Kubota (recent upgrades) and Max series are far closer with regards to features- that would have been a tougher choice. But L to 15xx isn't close until Kubota does an upgrade to that line.

Good luck and enjoy the hunt!

Yes, a traditional scan tool will give you codes, data and some special functions.
