I have a 4yr old DK 35 that has an oranged colored oil fill cap below the alt. It has now popped off twice recently, leaving nasty oil splatter. The rubber plug cap has threads but the tube it plugs does not have any, seems like just a press fit. In the owners manual, it is labelled as oil dip rod but my dip rod is further aft.. I also have a metal cap atop the head that says "OIL". Both times, it was about 0c or 32f outside when it came off. Dealer suggests it might just be that the rubber plug has aged and no loner presses firmly enough against tube. I am wondering if this is an excessive crankcase pressure due to colder weather or perhaps I have a PCV type valve problem? Any thoughts?

Next time the tractor is running pull the dip stick out that will tell ya if you do.

I looked at the repair manual for the CK25,27,30,35, specifically the PCV system and how it works. It's pretty simple...it just recycles any gases from inside the valve cover back to the air intake manifold. There is no check valve that could fail stuck closed like most cars have. I don't see how the crankcase could over pressure based on this design. Kioti describes the PCV system as more of a pollution control function since it recycles gasses back to the intake. It's not described as crankcase pressure control although they use that term for it. There is a small piece of hose from the valve cover to the intake. You could remove this and blow through all the openings to make sure they are clear. Then maybe replace the rubber plug, it may be just too loose for the hole and the pressure is blowing it off.

Thanks for the idea, Rick, I will check it out. Blue262, great info, thanks. On a side note, is the service manual any better written (accurate) than the owners manual?

I don't have my DK35 handy, It's at the farm but if my memory serves me that orange plug had "O" rings around it. They may need to be replaced. If not, I know I had to replace a lost plug and it was only a couple of $$.

The repair manual is $75. I would give it a B-/C+. All the technical stuff is there. The pictures could be better and there could be more of them. The text is very short when it comes to describing step by step instructions. There are miss-spellings and gramatical errors. I think it's worth the money if you are going to try to maintain your own tractor.

Thank You, again. I am thinking it is what it is and unlikely to get any better so will get one.
