Kioti DK5510
Just got my 2018 Kioti DK 5510 back from the dealer after a 50 hour service. I was brush hogging and the water in fuel lite came on as well as the CEL, I had added some diesel fuel from a gas station I normally do not use and thought maybe they had water in it. I added diesel fuel additive for water and drained the fuel filter. Today I went back to brush hogging and after a hour or so the CEL came back on but no water in fuel. Took it directly to the pole barn and checked the oil and water which were both OK. Started it back up and no CEL, so went back to brush hogging. After about a half hour the CEL came back on and I shut it down in the field. Waited about 5 minutes , started it back up and no CEL and back to brush hogging and got another half hour before the CEL came back on. I took it to the pole barn and went to the house. My service manual tells me nothing about this CEL other than it is there on the dash and doesn't mention it in the troubleshooting anywhere. Has me baffled as the tractor doesn't seem to act any different when the CEL comes on. Looking for ideas on the problem?

Is there really only 50 some hours on a 2018 tractor? I’m thinking drain all the fuel and start fresh. Be sure that you’re using diesel specific additives, not gasoline because you don’t want to introduce alcohol to a diesel engine. Grab a name brand diesel injector cleaner with cetane boost and work that tractor…😉

YES, this 2018 tractor has ONLY about 56 hours on it right now. I bought it at an auction in a very small town and went to talk to the local Kioti dealer and come to find out it belonged to a guy that bought it for his girlfriend to till her garden. She happened to be his wife's sister and he said he actually put the hours on the tractor AND neither the guy nor the girlfriend used it. The guy died and the girlfriend had NO claim to anything and so the guy's sister came in and took control of it all. She put it all up for auction and I bought the tractor and didn't need the tiller so someone else bought it. I basically bought a new 2018 Kioti as it had about 13 hours on it when the sister used it to get stuff stagged and loaded during the auction. I think it had a little over 20 when I bought it earlier this year. The tank on this tractor is plastic and a little less than 12 gallon capacity and the fuel I put into it that may have been contained with water was only about 5 gallons. I did put specific diesel fuel water treatment additive in it and have since topped off the fuel tank with red diesel from the co-op rather than the gas station where this fuel may have been contaminated. Funny thing is the water in fuel light no longer comes on but the CEL does. My service manual tells me nothing about what may trigger this CEL which I find odd but of course I have never owned a Kioti before either. By the way, from my online research I have found many complaints about that water in fuel light coming on but nothing about the CEL.

First off I know nothing in particular about a DK 5510, but I have had long experience with diesel equipment.

2nd, congratulation on snagging a low hour tractor.

3rd, 2018 with ~20hours means the fuel in the tank is mostly from that time - 6 years old. No matter what you put in it since you purchased it.......drain or suction it all out and put in fresh fuel......along with a new fuel filter and prime the fuel pump well to circulate fresh fuel thru the system.

4th, same goes for engine oil and filter. Drain, new filter and oil.

5th, open up the air filter and make sure it was not used as a mouse house. Clean and or replace.

6th, change out the coolant and trans/hydraulics at some point later, as these are not as urgent as the above fluids and filters.

7th, with respect to the CEL.......this could be many things....from a mouse nibbled wire somewhere to an actual faulty part that the computer is picking up a fault code. If it is a hard fault on the computer, the CEL light will stay on until cleared by a reader. If it is non-essential and the signal rectifies itself, it will come on intermittently. It may log an error on the computer or it may not.......only a code reader will tell. My experience with intermittent CEL lights is that they are often caused by a loose or corroded electrical connection. Check by wiggling/checking some wires starting at the dash light and work out......look for signs of mouse activity or someone/something accessing the electrical wiring.

Be curious and have a good look around the machine while doing items 3 thru 5.

If the CEL persist you will have to somehow try to get a code from the computer. A CEL light it not the end-of-the-world..... just a heads up that there is an electrical signal that the computer recognizes as abnormal and should be checked.

He said he said that he got it back after the dealer did the 50 hour service…..so the oil and filters should be good. Doesn’t hurt to check the air filter though as who knows how thorough the dealer was, or if recent new residents/rodents moved in.
Clean out the fuel, but if it’s running and you have plans to work it lots maybe some hard work and long hours should help to clear it up.
Sounds like it needs to be broken in yet too 🥴

Thank you for all the information and many of what you suggest have been checked and or corrected. The tractor has had new fuel added to it since I originally bought it with 20 hours. It has just had the 50-hour service in which ALL filters and fluids have been changed. I also added about 5 gallons of fuel to it when I first noticed the CEL as well as the water in fuel light on the dash. I then drained the fuel filter, added diesel fuel water treatment. I also filled the fuel tank with red diesel fuel from another place rather than the gas station I bought the 5 gallons from and the appropriate amount of diesel fuel water additive. After ALL that the water in fuel light has NOT came back on but now the CEL comes on after about an hour or so of operation. I suspect I will have to have the dealer look it over but hate to pay for them to come get and return it as they just did so for the 50 hour service. By the way I didn't notice these lights until after the 50-hour service but that's not to say they didn't come on and I didn't see any of them. I wasn't really looking for anything because it was such a low hour tractor either.

Not sure why the tractor has to go to the dealership to check on a cel? Ask the dealership to have a technician swing by the next time he’s in the area. He can plug in to it and read/clear the codes as required….😉

Where is the plug for the code reader located? I have an OBDII code reader,
but I suspect it may take a different hookup than what I have for my vehicles.

Yeah I don't think the automotive OBDII will work. Proprietary software
