My front loader is current stuck in the up position. All other joysticks functions work correctly. The PTO works and the bucket tries to go down but (you can tell it's receiving input from the joystick) it will only move a few inches. No noticeable noise made during operation - it just stops moving down.

Perhaps, related to this problem is the fact that we've been having trouble connecting the quick connect couplers. The last few times, it has taken a LOT of physical effort and two people to get the connections to seat correctly - one holds the sleeve while the other pushes. We have checked for blockage and there is none. It almost seems like there is a malfunction in a pressure relief related to the hydraulic control and the loader.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jay

Jay,
Right now it sounds like one of your quick couplers is not seated all the way.
When and if you ever remove a quick coupler you should always shut off the tractor and move the joystick in a circular motion allowing the pressure to bleed off before disconnecting.
The problem you will have now is you are going to have the down preasure of the loader working against you to get your coupler hooked all the way.
It will be difficult to hook it up and you will have fluid leak out but just push on it hard and it should go.

I haven't taken my loader off yet, but every time I've put the BH on I've had to relieve the pressure on the BH hydraulics to get the hoses connected. I put the hose end down of a flat part of the subframe and push real hard, when the head opens you know it as fluid sprays everywhere. Once pressure is relieved, connectors pop right in.

Well its fixed and I learned a few things in the process.
The main problem in this case was that one of the disconnects on the valve body did not seat perfectly after the last time I took the loader off. It leaked a bit, lost a little fluid, and I reseated it easily. No problem except I suspect some air got in there (I doubt debris got in there as I keep it covered when its not hooked up) and had air lock. Disconnecting and reconnecting everything did nothing to fix the problem.
When I took the lines back off I did notice that all the lines except for one were no longer pressurized. Jaybr, the technique of moving the joystick to all positions (after the tractor is off) before you remove the lines really helps to relieve the line pressure you describe and I've struggled with before. Nonetheless, I still had the one pressurized hose even after that. I tried to relieve the pressure several ways with minimal success. Finally I used a very small 2 armed puller using the center of the puller to depress the center pin while my assisstant kept a cloth over the whole thing. Viola- out came the fluid and the bucket descended to the ground. Keep in mind this is really high pressure so fluid goes everywhere in a hurry so major eye and skin protection is needed (not to mention the danger of a freely descending bucket!). The puller allowed me to control the rate of descent.
Out came about a quart of fluid. I then reconnected the lines after which the loader worked okay, then really well after it cycled around a few times. I suspect I purged out the air (or ?).
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate your time. Jay.
