Selling the tractor at a discounted price? No! That's quite an extreme measure and a real gift from the heavens for whoever buys it. You have a great tractor and as far as I know, emissions free as well.
Even if the problem is internal, it's still not an huge job. It's basically pulling the left axle housing but that's just if we can't find the problem. Check what K5 said first. The lever could indeed be just spinning on top of the shaft instead of actually rotating it.
