Tractor was working fine, sat for a few weeks (normal) and then I started bush hogging. Ran well for about an hour, then RPMs would drop sharply (to the stall point) on a slight incline. Eased off pedal and turned to go across slope and had white smoke coming out. Did nothing but add fuel before this. Oil and coolant are ok, so I don't think head issues. Added a diesel additive to absorb water in case that was an issue (fuel was from same supplier as always), and changed fuel filter. After bleeding, tractor ran fine again, this time for about 15 minutes when the same symptoms occurred. I don't see any leaks, and I can't really see much in the fuel tank since there is what looks like a plastic shelf about 6 inches down into it (BTW is it normal for the fuel level to drop when the fuel cap is removed? I saw diesel when I opened it and by the time I got a flashlight and came back, only saw the plastic shelf).
I'm not super-mechanical, but I'd like to eliminate any easy fixes before I haul it to the dealer (had my share of dumb issues fixed by the dealer). Any ideas? Thanks!
