Hi Folks,

I hope I am in the right section to ask this question.

I have a Kioti LK30 and have replaced the bolt and torque washer on the gear lever twice (its inside the cover on the side of the gearbox, and the symptoms are that the gear lever just flops about). The second time, which was today, I also notice a brass tooth, which had obviously been broken off in the bottom of the gear box. After re-assembling the tractor seems to work ok, the gear shift liver works as expected, and there is no obvious problem.

I realise that being brass, this tooth is part of the syncro gear. But am I likely to get further problems down the line.

Thanks if anyone can help.

Regards

Bill

I have the older version LK3054, but the same tractor from the transmission back. I have about 500 hrs on mine and have not experienced your issue, and hope not to, but any time you find broken/fractured parts floating around it's not good news. Having said that, as long as the syncro remains intact, you should be fine. If it deteriorates further, you may lose the ability to shift-on-the-fly into the affected gear

Thanks for the reply Patches. I have less than 200 hours on the clock. I bought the LK30 new in 2007, and the first time I had trouble was with less than 100 hours use. I am disappointed with the this aspect of the tractor, as it is obviously a weakness in design. I don't really care about being able to change gears on the move, but the thought of having this problem every 100 hours or so is not something that I am looking forward to. Removing the 'Main Shift Cover Assembly' is not that easy when it is stuck in gear as there is very little room to position the gear selector forks so that the unit can be removed from the gear box.

My main concern is that the synchro breaks up completely and jams in the gearbox. I guess I am right in thinking that to remove the gearbox you would have to split the tractor in two. Do you know if this is the case?

I've no personal knowledge, but it would appear that would be necessary, as you would have to remove the counter shaft to access the syncros
