Kioti CK30 HST
I have a ck30 hst that came with a Kioti 3pt tiller,I think its a kt-65? Anyways its 65" and I see the specs say one needs a 30-50hp tractor to run it.

So I was trying to break up some sod to open up my garden area ,man she was hard ground,I made several passes ,each time sinking the tiller more and more ,she was a tough go and still never got it to my liking.Manage to stall the tractor out twice it was that hard.

So my question is , is that 65" till too much for my 30hp tractor? I did end up just creeping along and when my rpms started dropping I would lift up the tiller slightly to get the rpms up again, then continue.Really didn't like working it that hard and got thinking maybe trade it in for a smaller tiller?

Also,my pto is 2 speed, I started tilling in the low speed then finished with the high speed...is this the right way to do it?

If it was me, I would consider sub soiling before tilling and or wait for a 2-3 day real good soaking rain to loosen up that soil some. Ken Sweet

The 65 is nice because it will cover the 63 inch width of your tires if you have R4s. If it's new ground or that hard, using a subsoiler first as mentioned would make tilling much easier. It should be easier next year. The tiller should have been designed to be run at 540rpm max which is marked on the tach if you use the lower range of the pto. The higher pto range, 1000rpm at the same mark on the tach, is a little fast for the implement. Most guys run the engine at around 1300prm to get 540 pto rpm but when you do this, you also lose hp and torque from the engine. That's ok if you have easy work and want to run the engine slower.
