I used my new KK II 60" tiller Friday for a food plot and it worked great. I was very pleased with the tiller and the way my JD 3520 ehydro handled it. Try to get some pics out this week.

Measured the shaft, I didn't have to do anything, it was just right.

I checked and it came filled with gear oil in the pto gear box and the side gear box. Greased the end bearing and the pto shaft. No leaks after I got done.

I got some info here on TBN about the spring length on the slip clutch and it was right on it.

My question is does the pto gear box get hot after about an hour running?

It wasn't so hot you couldn't keep your hand on it.

You guys will probably bust my chops but I didn't loosen up the slip clutch and smoke it the first time like I've read to do.

Where I was tilling has been plowed every year for the last 5-6 years and there isn't and issue with rocks or roots. I didn't see the need nor did I have time to check the slip clutch other than measure the springs at the time of set up.

I will do the proper adjustment to the slip clutch before I use it again if you guys say it needs to be done.

Everything I've run in the past with a gear box, bush hogs etc., have always been hot but I'm just checking to see if this is normal for the KK II.

Thanks for any info.

Not used a KK tiller but the gearbox on the Rotomec/john deere/Kuhn tillers all get quite warm. Not a issue. However on the gearboxes here I've changed out the gear oil after about ten hours of use. I've never have had any issues on any gearboxes on any of my three tillers.

I'd call that "warm" or "normal operating temperature". It's good to get a little heat in the oil as it will drive out some of the moisture that will collect from sitting around between uses, protecting the contact surfaces of your gears & bearings.

And yes, slip that clutch!

Thanks for your reply.

Like I said I felt safe where I was using it the first time but anywhere else I'll make sure the tiller and tractor are protected by the properly adjusted slip clutch.
