KKII 48\" Tiller

I just picked up my 48" KKII tiller at TSC the other day. I had to shorten up the driveshaft about 2" and do the pre-delivery service as they are shipped dry. Not much to it, just fill two gear boxes and grease the one big "outboard bearing". I see what some of the fellows are talking about regarding paint quality. It's dripping off it in some places and a bit thin in some others but for the money I'm happy with it. I'll have to get a can of touch-up and deal with it as I go.

l was looking them over at my local TSC also , l happened to notice a 6 ft model with my name all over it . As has been mentioned many times , the paint is'nt pretty but for the price of a can of touch up you cant go wrong . As you mentioned it comes dry , the manager said he'd throw in the grease and fluid for free . Can't beat that ! Now lets hope for an early spring so we can have some seat time and get them dirty .

Just out of curiosity, why did you decide to get a 48 inch when the 60" is cheaper and heavier..

He may have just been following the manufacturers recommendations. According to his profile, he has a 27 HP (23.8 PTO HP) tractor. The 48" KKII tiller is recommended (by KK) for 20-35 PTO HP tractors (his fits in this range). The 60" KKII tiller is recommended for 25-40 PTO HP tractors (his doesn't fit in this range. Misses low by 1.2 HP.)

I'm pretty much in the same boat with my 26 HP (23 PTO HP) Mahindra. Though when I finally get a tiller, I'll probably chance it and go with the 60". I think (and hope) that the 2615 4WD is a bit under rated at 26/23.

The CCM MR160- 58" tiller has a range of 18-60 PTO HP.
Also the CCM CR60" tiller requires 16 HP minimum.
Both tillers are gear drive and have 6 tines per flange.

Bama hit it on the head. The soil here is also heavy clay and I didn't want to be underpowered. jw, around here the 48" is cheaper than the 60". I realized it's a tad lighter but it's still close to 600#. It's also built offset so you cover your tracks nicely. I took it out this afternoon and chopped a little bit, works great.

I have been considering a 48" KKII for my JD 4100. I was wondering about the offset on the 48". My tractor is only 48" wide in the back. Can you use the tiller not offset? Or is it a permenant configuration? Would I even need to worry about it?

The tiller is made offset to the right side(looking at it from the rear) so it covers your right rear tire as you go. You cannot move the offset. It was $1089.00 at the local TSC, I also got 5% off due to a small dent where your top link attaches. I pointed it out to them when they loaded it and they said they could get me another one or give me the discount. I was able to use a large crescent wrench to straighten it in about 5 seconds so I took the discount.

I took the tiller out and tilled up a 25'x60' garden. My old garden was only 15'x20', so I tilled up the old garden and adjacent field to make the larger garden. The tiller had plenty of power, I think I could have moved up to the 5' unit with no problems. I was worried about tilling the hard pasture ground with my 23.8 pto HP but it never even started to bog the engine down. It made a real nice fine chopped soil like it came out of a bag of topsoil. I was very impressed with the unit.
