This infested area is not smooth level ground. Mostly it's rocky, uneven, heck it's a mess. I've spent several days digging out the the root balls (rhizome) in the one area that is in accessible ground.. I want to hear success stories, I hope there are some...

To spread tarps I'd need to first bulldoze .... dig up roots and spray a groundclear mix into the hole and on the removed dirt before refilling.

Well - you have your knotweed - - around here its Morning Glory/Bind weed. Both are a tough, invasive customer. Both spread from rhizomes.

I have a pasture that we first though was - "Oh, so pretty". Then the rancher, neighbor, came over and told us what that was and that we better start doing something or it could take over the entire eighty acres.

Literature suggests that digging up the root balls is a waste of time and actually spreads the plant. Every tiny little bit of root generates a new plant.

The suggestion is RoundUP early in the spring when the plant is just starting to emerge.

I have reduced the size of the "infested area" from a quarter acre down to the size of your kitchen table. This will be the fourth year of my active attack against this plant. I can't believe how easily this plant spreads.

I seriously doubt that I will ever totally eliminate the Bind weed - but it will be down to the size that is easy to maintain and control.

I have knotweed in my flower beds, so I can't do a spray. I do have an area in my garden that I'm planning on attacking this summer. The plan is to give up trying to save anything in that area for a few years, nuke it with herbicides every time I see it, and then re-do the entire area.

After four years - most all of the quarter acre is back into its natural field grass - except the six foot circle where I - once again this spring - hit it with Roundup.

Next spring - 2019 - I will use something else - if the bind weed come up. I think this stuff can develop a tolerance to certain herbicides.
