Does anybody know how well Kodiak implements hold up? Are they good products and is the company any good? I am fixing to buy a new 6' tiller and Kodiak or King Kutter are what i've narrowed it down to.

Thanks

I have a Kodiak medium duty rotary cutter, five footer with slip clutch. Besides being nearly bullet-proof it's made in Tennessee. I "Buy American" wherever/whenever possible. Mahindra apparently likes them too. From what I've heard, most of the implements at Mahindra dealers (in the US) are manufactured by Kodiak.

I just ordered a 6' rotto tiller to be delivered with my MF 1643, My dealer spoke really highly of them compared to the masseys tiller and costs $1000 less... time will tell.

The dealer I bought my Kodiak HD8 brush hog from spoke very highly of Kodiak as a company. I'm in my second season with my cutter and could be more pleased with its performance. My neighbor has a king kutter 5' tiller and I've put many hours on it. It's been flawless for about 10-12 years now. I doubt you would go wrong with either one.

I purchased a 6' Kodiak rotary cutter earlier this year and found it to be sadly lacking. It is an old and inefficient design and the body buckled the first time I backed into a small stump, 8" elm about 12" high. Rather that shift to the side and slide around it the entire cutter body buckled. I managed to somewhat straighten it using the loader with the bucket removed and the quick attach foot pressing on the buckled area. I reinforced it with 1/4" steel welded to the frame tubes and it works, but it should not have buckled that easily. I have used King Kutter, Fred Cain, and other economy mowers for years that have held up and performed better than this cutter and they were not as expensive as it.

Wrong tool for the job. That's why Kodiak offers three duty cycles in their implement lines; standard, medium, heavy duty. Standard duty rotary cutters are not intended to back into "a small stump, 8" elm about 12" high". That should not have happened with a 6' MD, and certainly would not have happened with a 6' HD. I've run my three year old MD60 into (and over) some pretty rough stuff, and haven't done anything worse to it than scratch the paint.

This is the MD series.

I have a 5' Kodiak Standard Duty with a slip clutch and it is next to being a tank. I wanted a medium duty, but couldn't cough up the extra money. I did a lot of comparing before I bought Kodiak and I felt for the money that it was the better deal. Deck thickness seems to run slightly thicker and the welds are good as well as compared to some other cutters in the same class. Any time that I have had a question, Kodiak in TN has been more than willing to help. That means a lot. In the near future I am going for their tiller.

I will add that this cutter mows almost as good as my lawn mower does. I am able to cut really close with minimal discharge.

I'd call your experience the exception rather than the rule. Given that it's still essentially new, I'd say you have a case for a refund/exchange, possible manufacturing defect. Unless there's more to the story, a MD should stand up to a reasonable bounce off a sapling elm. Perhaps you're unaware that Kodiak is manufactured not far below you in Charleston, TN. Perhaps you should talk to them rather than trying to convince the dealer.

Although having said that, those attempts at repair might diminish your your position.
