Both are the same $1050 at my local Co-op and both are 5' sheer-pin cutters.

Anything I should know before dropping the cash?

I found no direct comparisons of the two so far.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know these mowers other than Bushog is still major player in my part of the world and Kodiak was and think still sold by Agri Supply in the Carolinas and Georgia. I would look at the weight of each, thickness of the metal, look at the blades themselves, get gear box hp ratings. I am assuming you are cutting grass or very light brush with them for the price they are. Compare their three point hitch and you want some movement in the third arm for the rear to rise and fall as you drive over high spot. Kenneth

mpdcop353, I have a Kodiak SD 5' with a slip clutch that I use on a Mahindra 2816. I think I bought it in 2011 and is my first brush cutter. I was on a budget at the time and $990 seemed very reasonable. I have certainly put it through its paces cutting autumn olive trees on the farm. I have a few small dents in the deck, but that is it. I adjusted the slip clutch to match my tractors PTO and I think that has been my saving grace. For small compacts, I would recommend this cutter. Anything over 35hp, I would be looking at a medium duty or larger.

The weight of the SD 5' is ideal for my Mahindra. I think it is around ~515 lbs and is perfect for my slopes. I don't think you would be disappointed in the least. If you plan to upgrade tractors, you might want to consider that as well. From my experience, the Kodiak line has been very good. My friend also has a 7' HD on a 62hp Massey. He has not been gentle with the cutter by any means and it has held up very well.

I've got a 5' Kodiak SD as well. I've had it grab large partially buried rocks and pull them up into the blades. There's one spot in the back angle corner of the body where the edge is just rolled over without being tied in at the corners. One of those rocks pulled that rolled over part out. It was easy to bend back and if it happens again I'll weld in some bracing.

If you have rocky soil you might want to check the Titan in that area, or the MD Kodiak for a few $hundred more.

I have a Titan and it is just OK. It does not seem to cut as well as other cutters I have owned.
