CC LT 1046
I was at the local CC dealer last week to pick up some accessories for my 1046. While browsing, I noticed a bright shiny new LT 1046 with a 23hp Kohler Command under the hood. What gives!! My 1046 has the Courage under the hood and from what I've read on this forum, the Command is the better of the two. Is this something new for the 1046? Did I get ripped off? Man, am I disappointed. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Courage or command series, I wouldn't sweat it for a LT/GT application. Check the kohler website, they are both completely serviceable/rebuildable engines should you ever wear one out. You probably wont.

I'd read in another post on this board that the Courage was built to run for 750 hrs, while the command was built to run 2000 hrs.

I do agreee that while most folks who buy a LT/GT will only use it for 50 hrs/yr (and that's a whole lota years at 12) so it shouldn't matter. But I definitely searched for a Command motor in my SLT because of the differing life expectancies.

It seems to me that cub went with the Courage to get to a price point. Many of the 05 models had the Command, then in 06 they had the Courage. I've seen only a very few people online selling the slt with a command engine new. And the list was $200 igher at $2799 vs the $2599.

The Courage line was developed to keep the prices down on the LT lines, and now just about all the makes of LT's under $2000 that use Kohler engines have the Courage. Still, unless you are totally abusing your LT, you should get at least 10 years out of the Courage engine. The longer hour life Commands are now reserved for the more expensive tractors. I see the cheaper JD LT's are using entry level Briggs Intek engines rather than the Kohler Courage, I wonder if JD is just letting the other manufacturers test the water with the Courage line?

I'm not sure what is so internally different between the Command and Courage engines that gives the Command over double the rated lifespan of the Courage? Must be better aluminum or something /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
