kohler engine for case 220

i have a kohler k241 from 1971 in my case 220 lawn tractor and the engine is going. i am looking for a NEW engien for it. can anyone tell me what will replace it? one that i can swap out and not have to do alot of modifications. its a 10 hp. it still runs but to have it rebuilt it will be like 1300.00 and if i can get me one for under 2000.00 then i think that would be the best way to go.

There should be a spec number on it somewhere.

When You find this , take the number to a Kohler Dealer and they should be able to match it to what You need.

I replaced a 12 hp several years ago and that is what I had to get for them to get the right replacement.

$1300 for a rebuild of a Kohler "K" series engine sounds VERY high! In my area, they are typically done for $600 +/-. The "K" Kohlers are one of the better/easier engines to rebuild. I'm guessing that your quote came from the dealer? Try asking around at independant small engine repair shops. I know of a good guy in Conn.

If new is the way you want to go, check out www.smallenginewarehouse.com for engine s in their "repower" section. They are usually set up to be essentially drop in replacements.

I just went to the Small Engine Warehouse site and got the exact web page you might be interested in:

They say the Kohler K241 is out of stock and they currently offer a short block replacement for $795 plus shipping. With a short block, you will need to save the carb, air filter housing, etc off your old engine and install them on the short block. The short block is a new block, piston, rod, crank, cam, valves and bearings; esentially all new internals, but will need the externals from the old motor. Should still be less than the $1300 you were quoted.

so it will like up all the way and i will have to do nothing but the little stuff? i called them and they do not know if it will line up for the hydo and the cluch in the front. they said they will call back to tell me if the specs will work off mine. thanks
