Just another load of castle pictures:D

Kokořín is located north of Prague, in the central region of Czech republic.
The fortified palace with a tower and a wall was built by Hynek Berka of Dubé around 1320. It was one of the guarding castles for the business route to Germany. At the close of the 15th century the castle was renovated in the late Gothic style by the lords of Klinštejn. Since the middle of the 17th century Kokořín had been tenantless and it deteriorated.
The ruins were not bought until 1894 by Václav Špaček of Starburk, who decided to renovate the castle. The architect, Eduard Sochor, was a leader in this project and, considering its occurrence between 1911 and 1918, it was one of the latest Romantic restorations of a Medieval object.

Great photos and great architecture. They really knew how to build them back then, didn't they!

I visited ancestorial castles in Scotland some years ago.... It brings home that there was a time when people actually went after each other with arrows, pikes and swords.... boiling oil, starvation, etc.... We are survivors of a tough line..... seems like people have always been messing with other people's homes and lands and resources... we just can't seem to be satisfied, as a race, with what we have, but want something from somebody else... and, history seems to verify that "might makes right."

Sorry, I just couldn't help becoming philosophical:rolleyes:

No, people are the same century after century.

I actually enjoyed thinking about the advantage I would have in medieval times on the top of the tower with compound bow and truckload of carbon fiber arrows:)

Ah, yes, the technological advantage...

Wonder if a crossbow tops a compound bow... never shot one myself.... but bet it does either in range, shock power, speed of shooting/reloading, number of arrows that can be carried, accuracy or something.

Hmm, I wonder what the Geneva Conventions say about a humane arrow... would it have narrow, non expanding blades. Would it be a metal point only, no blades? Would the total weight be limited, or the diameter of the shaft? Maybe just 2 blades, not three. Maybe it just has a paint ball on the end and the color imparted depends on strength of impact and you are supposed to behave according to the color you recieve when hit?

I have it:eek: It's the tranqulizer arrow... you get to sleep thru the rest of the attack:D
