I am going to post this in several areas on here in hopes to get in contact with someone who has dealt with what I am.
I have a Komatsu mini excavator and the engine is tagged as Komatsu-Yanmar 3D72-2B. Of course this is the OEM number given by Komatsu for a Yanmar model engine and this is where the fun began.
The main tag is missing off of the excavator, but Komatsu is telling me that based on the engine tag they think it is a PC05-5 model excavator. That solves one part of the mystery. They wouldn't give me the cross reference number for the engine though so I contacted Yanmar in hopes they could. Using the displacement of 0.879 they came back with two possible engines 3TNA72 and 3T72HLE. After a week of talking with them, they have used the starter numbers to come back saying it should be the 3TNA72 which is apparently used in several John Deere and Yanmar tractors as well as some generators and other equipment. One would think with so many in use that finding parts would be fairly simple, but I can't seem to find anything but starters and alternators on the net.
What is going on is the machine is losing water. No water getting into the oil. Looks to be burning it but theres no smoke out the exhaust but there is white smoke coming out of the breather hole at the top of the valve cover. I am assuming that this means a head gasket???
Does anyone on here know where to get a gasket kit for this engine? I live in western NC and have tried the local Komatsu dealer, but they haven't bothered returning my calls. I even tried a Yanmar dealer, still waiting on them too. I'm wanting to get the machine fixed this coming week but have no clue how to. Anyone that can help with this please drop me a line. Thanks
