Thanks for weighing in! With a little help from my mechanic, he was able to free the stuck gland. Have parts but the threads on the cylinder sustained just enough damage to prevent putting humpty back together again last night. Now will be finding someone to square the threads away again. Hopefully won't need new cylinder.
Don't mind the fact that the seals and stuff wear out, its the surrounding quality of stuff that prevents the shade-tree tractor mechanic from getting it all apart and back together frustrating. Like the 1 6.8345/8 size wrench you need that nobody makes to get the gland off.
