Hey everyone, I am having trouble with my 317. I have tested the battery, and it tests fine. I also tested the positive terminal of the coil for 12v and it is good. I found a diagram for testing a Kohler coil, but I've only been able to get one test done. I put a multimeter on the positive and negative terminals of the coil with the key off and found a resistance of 5.3 ohms. This made me feel good since the spec was between 4 and 8 ohms. The next test was from the positive terminal to the "tower" (I'm not real sure what it is). I think it is the larger terminal for one of the plug wires? Anyhow, I got open line when it should have been between 7-12000 ohms. Not really sure of what else to do. Any suggestions? Thanks

Cleaning may not do it. If the points are badly pitted, they will not work right. If they are not pitted to bad, you can file them flat and then readjust the gap.

If still not getting spark, you may want to replace the condenser.

I just put the points on not quite 2 years ago. I pulled them off today and they arent very dirty or pitted at all. they look pretty clean. I have been reading forums alot today. The consensus seems to be the condenser. I replaced that at the same time as the points and coil. Strange.
Thanks for the advice!

It ended up being a bad connection at the PTO switch. That was aggrevating! Thanks for your help!

Glad you got it figured out. With all the safety switches on the newer tractors, it really does make trouble shooting more complicated.

Good job!!
