02 Kubota L-4610 HST w/4in1 bucket & R-4s
I now have 7 hrs on my new L-4610 HST and have mainly operated it w/my finish mower at a speed of say 2500 RPM's remaining below the rated speed of 2700RPM to acheive 540 PTO rpm's w/out over reving engine under break-in. I checked my oil and noticed I was almost 1 qt low, is this normal? My previous Kubota L-2900 GST had 320 hrs on it and never used a drop between changes. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

BeeBop,
I haven't had a bit of trouble with my L3010DT and I'm at 99.5 hours. Have you checked it before? the dealer might have filled it up and didn't top it off after running it to fill up the oil filter. Just a guess. Keep an eye on it. I assume, since you didn't say, that there aren't any puddles under your tractor.

Beebop, depends on what the oil level was 7 hours ago. Don't panic yet, fill it to the line and give it another 7 hours and see how it goes. If you use another quart in 7 hours then you have problems. Pay attention to your exhaust smoke and breather tube and then let us know. You have plenty of warranty time available so get a good feel for what's going on.

Upon arrival I checked it out and the oil was approximately on the line. Do you think 2500 rpm's are excessive during break in? I hope this bad feeling goes away but things like this sometimes don't fix themselves. I wouldn't want a tractor that had to be gone into this new so we'll see what happens. I need to grab some seat time fast before the ink dries on the contract. Wish me luck.

As Kubmech said, bring the oil back up to the line and check it again. Be sure to check it under the same conditions. Best is before you start it in the morning. My L 48 used 1 quart after the first 50 hour oil change, at the 100 hour, it did not use any oil. The 4610 has a great little diesel, I would not even begin to worry until I had 25 or more hours. As far as 2500, I would be a little more inclined to run it closer to 2000RPM. You will still get a decent cut with your mower, less RPM and noise, especially good for breakin in a diesel. You should notice that you still have about the same torque at that RPM as with 2500 RPM. Have fun and don't sweat it. Rat...

BeeBop,
I have a big 3.0 Hours(not to be confused with 30) on mine so I will let you know how it runs later.
I don't even know wher the oil dip stick is yet...
You have to admit it sure is fun!

Rat, I think you and Kubmech are onto something, In my research I have discovered that it will actually use oil during break-in as you indicated Rat so maybe all is well and good. Thanks for the help and advice. 'ciao
