Kubota 2013 M59 exhaust leak?

For the past few year’s particularly under load hear what sounds like an exhaust system leak. Maybe getting worse? Exhaust system is readily accessible by raising the hood and removing the side panel. Inspection of manifold, turbo, tubing, muffler, flanges can’t feel or see any evidence of leaks? Internal muffler problem? Messicks lists the whole welded muffler system as discontinued but maybe able to source one for $580. !!! Ouch. May try adding an resonator like this. Flow thru design should not cause much back pressure. Anyone tried to quite their diesel exhaust?

Couple of winters ago mice or chipmunks packed the exhaust with small red oak acorns. Was like a blunderbuss went off in the tractor shed when I started it. Thinking I had some sound symptoms before that.

If your pipe is leaking perhaps you can get some asbestos couple
inches wide wet it and wrap your pipe with it then cover with tin
the asbestos should last a very very long time as your pipe will
disappear first. If its the exhaust manifold get some cast iron cement
as it works great for the 454 manifolds that have cracked

Have used similar products with mixed success. Don’t see any cracks or leaks. Just a louder sound like a exhaust leak. Higher rpm under load.

That Tier IV Interm EGR exhaust system on the M59 is a real oddball. If I remember right, one part of the exhaust system is water cooled?? Kubota only used that exhaust for a very few years as a "rule beater" to get around the full Tier IV soot control requirements that were on the horizon.

I think it's been mentioned before on TBN, but there is a sort of vague maintenance requirement on the M59 "spark arrester" type muffler. In my operator manual is sounds like what Kubota calls a "spark arrestor" is a resonator right in the middle of the exhaust and might be the one that is water cooled. From the description of the maintenance in the shop manual It's kind of hard to figure out what Kubota was wanting the owner to do. Maybe they mean for the owner to take the exhaust off and beat and rod it to get the carbon out. And maybe they were guessing.....

I've never done that maintenance - or most other maintenance for that matter. It has over 1000 hours and most of that at idle RPM. Pretty typical old style diesel reliability.

Depending on what you are thinking of replacing, it might require disabling the EGR system.
