Hi,

I don't know alot about tractors and am about to buy a really clean kubota 5100E unit. It has a puma-48 snow blower. I want to buy a box blade for it and am trying to figure out if I need a cat 0 or Cat 1 blade. The website for the puma-48 snow blower says its a Cat 1 but the 5100E is on 12hp. I'm also wondering if I'll have enough traction as it's only a 2WD unit.

The seller also has a midmount mower unit but it's for a kubota 7100. Would you think it could be modifed to fit the 5100 ? Will I have any luck finding the right midmount mower ? I can't justify cost of the rear PTO type.

Thanks,

Derek

Derek…
Don’t know if you will have enough tractor for what you are planning… most MMM are driven with a 1000 RPM PTO, rear PTO is usually 540RPM.
I see your new to the forum, welcome to the group. KennyV

Thanks for the info. I do have a two speed PTO rated at 12hp. I wonder what the other speed is ? Looking at the tractor this morning I don't think it has a MM-PTO.

You should use cat 1 implements. You just need to buy "small" or "light" ones. Some of the manufacturors make a "sub-compact" line of attachments... such as King Kutter's XB line... those would suit you well.

Well today I picked up a 48" Box blade. Works good for leveling our the driveway. Got it to spread topsoil on my lot. I don't have enough traction to realy use the diggers. I almost bought a blade for it too. I have a loaner blade that I have been doing some good work with. I now see the two have a use and will pick up a new blade next week. I wish I hade more traction but for the price i couldn't go wrong.

Winter should be fun with the snow blower and snow blade it came with.

I think I will just pick up a riding mower ( can't call them a tractor now that I know what a real one is) when I have grass later this year.

The mmm for a 5100E is driven off of a front-mounted, electric clutch, PTO. There's a long v-belt that goes around a pulley on the front of th tractor and then gets routed down under and onto the mower. I don't imagine it would be too easy to find one. And even if you did, I wouldn't recommend it.

Your idea to pick up a lawn tractor is sound - either that or get a rear mower.
