BX1870-1, 54" MMM, FEL
I'm in the planning phase for what I hope is the purchase of a BX1870 this fall. The one fact I can't seem to find anywhere online is the actual width of the 54"MMM with the chute lifted. I have a shed that I want to store the tractor in and I am trying to determine if I will need to modify the doors. I would appreciate it if someone with the 54" MMM could measure it for me. Thanks

Just measured my 54" deck and it measures 58" without the chute off (mines off the deck right now - so it your chute sticks out any with it folded, add that to my measurement). When I bought my shed, I ordered double 3' doors just to be safe. Looks like you would just fit through a 5' opening. By the way, I started out with a BX1850, then a BX1860 and then a BX25. If you think you'll ever want the backhoe, don't make the same mistake I made. Oh, and welcome to TBN.

Great, thanks. As it is right now the opening is 64.5" with both doors open. So it seems like I should be able to fit through. As it is right now my Cub Cadet 682 has a 50" metal deck, but it doesn't have a foldable plastic discharge chute...but rather a fixed metal one and I can get in and out with a few inches to spare.

I've done a lot of thinking (and reading here) and I think I am headed toward a BX1870 with a 54"MMM and a FEL. I have 3 acres with about half being heavily wooded and half being lawn. The front half of the property is flat. The back has some significant slopes in both the woods and the yard. I also have about a 50 yard driveway that will need occasional snow removal, so I plan to use the FEL for that since we don't routinely get plowable snow in MD where I live. Mowing will be the primary duty, but I have a lot of landscaping to do and I move a lot of firewood around.

I went out and measured before I saw Chris's reply. Mine measured just under 57 inches with the chute off, but he has a newer machine so I'd go with his.

You likely already know this, but I'll mention anyway that if you plan on doing a fair amount of loader work you should really plan for ballast weight for the three point as well. You can order the ballast box, but probably more practical to get an implement you could use...

Agree on the ballast. Most dealers will price in the ballast box with the FEL, so you'd be paying for a box you'll have to fill with something heavy - rocks, sand, cement, etc. Better to take a credit and get a box blade, rear blade or something you can use as weight and an implement. I bought the weight box with my BX1850, but traded it back when I got the BX25. After I bought some rear implements, it pretty much sat in my shed taking up space. I will say, when filled with rocks, it was heavier than anything I've hung on the back except my backhoe. But, you can hang suitcase weights on a box blade or rear blade to add some weight if you need it. Just more suggestions to confuse you. :D
