Kubota 7040 and JD 1250 4 bottom plow

I am looking at a 4 bottom JD 1250 plow tomorrow. I'm guessing that the 7040 can handle this thing depending on the soil I'm trying to plow. I can always take a course off and use it as a 3 bottom.

I need your expertise! Please advise.

While I am not exactly sure of that tractor and your setup with 4WD/weight/tires,etc, I had an M8950 (86 hp 4WD, no added weight, no cab) and pulled 5 bottoms in sandy-stony-silt-loam@ 5-6 inches with no problems.

When I was curious, I looked up the pulling data on the Nebraska Tractor Tests website and compared what I had to other tractors I was familiar with in terms of pulling power. I have done this with many models over the years and it is extremely helpful.

That tractor is a little light but I'll bet--if 4WD-- it wll pull 4 bottoms without much effort in almost any condition. The cab helps and cast centers or weights would give added assurance. Kubotas seem to "pull well" and handle plows better than you would think. If 2WD add weight to the front as well.

Thanks for the info. The 7040 has 4x4, Cab, Loader, tires filled, cast centers and my fat behind to keep the tractor planted!

What do you suppose the whole tractor now weighs? You will pull that plow with no problem. Just keep your speed up so as to not overstress the machine.
I really liked plowing with my M8950. I unloaded the tires but when they were loaded it was a beast for strength.

Here's the pics of my $400 plow. These were taken before I used the wire wheel on the whole thing. I am getting ready to apply a nice thick coat of JD green. Should look nice in contrast to the 'bota orange.

Now I have to find a disc....or disk...

What do you suppose the whole tractor now weighs?

The best gestimate is that it weighs roughly 10.5K to 11K. I will post some pics of this thing in action hopefully next week!

It will pull real hard and be difficult until those moldboards "scour" clean and develop a suction. Keep us posted on the effort.
Good pictures and Ithink you got it for a good price. Even around here, where it's 99% chisel plows they bring maybe $500+
