Kubota 7040 or New Holland 4030...?

I'm in the market for a new tractor, and both dealers are close and quite helpful... I think the NH would cost a little more... 12F/12R comes stock on the NH where the Kubota is 8F/8R.. as well the NH has 120amp alternator std. and the Kubota comes with 60amp std. and 80amp opt. on the cab model...

Other than that they are quite comparable... :licking:

Blue or Orange?... lol :confused2:

Any suggestions or considerations?

Blue looks like more tractor to me. 1000 lbs over the orange, which is a good thing UNLESS you will be hauling it often. Also, 8f is not enough (I have one). Should be a minimum of 12, and 16 would be better. 700lbs more lift capacity on the 3pt with the blue.

Give the kubota the edge in maneuverability if it matters.

I like the loader on m series (not familair with the nh loader), but if there is no loader is on this tractor this is gonna be pretty easy.

NH is recommending a Stoll loader.. not familiar with them but they appear reputable.

I think similarly outfitted the NH will come in $5-$7G's more expensive... which I feel is quite a bit considering the minimal differences.
Kubota will include wheel weights on the rear, and NH will provide "loaded" tires.

NH dealer also offers Mahindra... (7060 as compared to the NH 4030) which I have never heard of... again offering about a $5000 savings over the NH.
Dry clutch in the Mahindra requires clutching between forward and reverse with shuttle, 12F/12R.

:confused2:

I am Liking the NH more... but...

Yeah, I've noticed more tractor usually equals more $.:D

Just need to figure out if you need it or not. What are you going to be doing with it?

A couple of years ago when I was looking at tractors I had it narrowed down to Kubota and Case/NH models. I went with Kubota, for me it was the better value, and I'm still quite happy with my decision.

You said that the NH was $5k - $7k more expensive than the Kubota, to me that means that for the same money you could jump up to an M8540 (if you needed or wanted to) and get more tractor, or stick with the M7040 and keep the cash.

There are a bunch of happy M7040 and M8540 owners on this site. I would not worry about the alternator. I've got the 8 speed transmission on my M8540HD and it is fine for me, but it's also available with a 12 speed and if you get that you also get the extra capacity three point lift (7000 lbs). I don't think you can get a 12 speed on the M7040 though.

I'm not knocking the Case/NH, I'm sure it's a great tractor, I just felt that the Kubota was a better value at the time and I've been very happy with it.

I'm on 100 acres mostly treed, I will have minimal ground engagement needs only smaller gardens under 2 acres total.
Mainly used for grounds maintenance, small scale logging/forestry work, and round bales for livestock.
I do hope to hay some fields for neighbors, as well possibly acquire some fields of my own eventually.
I will be slowly clearing some of my land but not a huge amount perhaps 8-10 acres total over the coming years.

I really do think the M7040 will be adequate tho I would hate to say "I wish I had of..." in a year or less!
The cab is a must since I will be using the unit year round, plus the resale value is much better should I need to.
Perhaps I'm suffering a bit of information overload with all the units I have been given information on over the last little while.
Big investment, first "New" tractor for me.
I have an old DB that gave up the ghost, and an MF industrial wheel loader (gas) which is still strong but has no 3pt.

Thanks for the input guys...

i would get the kubota ,maybe with out the cab.if your getting on/off a lot a cab is in the way.how large of bales are you thinking about?i would get the cast rear wheels and front weights to handle them.

You should be fine with the kubota. The weight and gears is needed more for the ground engaging, mowing/haying should be fine with 8 gears(just annoying between 4th and 5th gear). Also if you do much spraying, you'd want more gears.

I'd go for the cab. Forget the resale, it is worth it on your end if you sit on it much.

I sell both NH and Kubota. You'd be happy with either, but in your application I don't see anything to justify the added expense.

Our dealer also handles NH and while they certainly are nice tractors, for our use we got the M8540 and saved quite a bit of money. The 7040 should do fine though I would prefer more gears.
