Kubota A5000 Generator
I have a Kubota A5000 generator with a Kubota CDI engine. After not being run for about 5 months it would not start. Removing the spark plug indicates that fuel is reaching the cylinder. Cleaning and checking the spark plug and connecting to the lead and grounding the body shows no spark at all. Inserting a wire in the spark plug lead and again checking while cranking shows no spark at all. The battery is new today and fully charged. It turns over rapidly and easily. Replacing the plug and trying again gave the same results. How do I test for the defective part?? Are service manuals available online?? Any other method?? Where can I buy parts??
Thanks for any help I can get!!!

It certainly sounds like you have a bad coil/ignition module; Any Kubota dealer would be able to help you with this and get you a new coil.

Does this have a low oil shutoff? I pulled my guts out on a generator (not Kubota) that always started first pull. Yep, low oil.

I also have a Kubota A5000 generator. My problem is surging when the auto idler switch is on. It runs fine with the switch in the off position. This is a recent issue. It has run fine for years.

If it is a gas generator I'd say your low speed circuit on the carburetor needs to be cleaned.

Do you think something like Gumout would work or does the carburetor need to be removed and cleaned?

Typically removed and cleaned, but it wouldn't hurt to try a carb cleaner first.

Ditto, found that out the hard way myself once - first thing is check the oil and fill if necessary. If oil is good, then look into getting a new ignition module.

THAT is a dirty carb - you're running lean as a result. Pull the bowl and flush all openings with aerosol carb cleaner.
