Kubota B-7800 starting issue

Hello. I'm a 78 year old in need of help in troubleshooting a no-start issue with my old B-7800. I really can't afford to or able to get it to a repair shop so I'm hoping someone can help.

The issue is when turning the ignition key to start it, there is only a clicking sound. It is only one click each turn of the ignition key and not multiple clicks. It does not come from the starter or the solenoid which are on the left side of the engine but comes from somewhere on the right side of the engine. Odd thing is, it started just fine after being laid up for several months and with a new fully charged battery. But now, just the click.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had a B7800 that did that and not sure how I fixed it. I would clean the cables and batteries for starters since it sounds like that. Check battery ground too.

Then, check the seat switch to make sure it's working. I think you disconnect it to check.
Then check to make sure the mid or rear PTO is not on.
Then check one of the master fuses. They are jumbo sized and maybe 50 amp.

There is also the foot pedal that sometimes gets caught a whisker off mid-travel and won't start. Not sure if that clicks or not but it's caused a lot of mischief, especially when the tractor sits of a while.


Fill in your profile a little with generic location or acres or something and you'll get a better response.

The clicking on the right side is the fuel shut off solenoid engaging which is normal. Are all your safety switches good- clutch, PTO, seat etc?. Do you have the normal lights on the dash for pre-heat on the glow plugs? If not check the ground strap connection at the frame rail, also, get a volt meter and check the voltage - should be 12.6V or so.

Take the battery out and get it load checked at an auto parts store if you have done these things already.

Another suggestion is do a search on B7800 no start condition here on TBN or Google..

Thanks Carl. I'll check all this. All the lights work and the voltage is correct. I guess it could be the safety switches but all worked just fine a few days ago when it did start.

Problem solved....Went back out and checked everything I could and discovered the PTO lever was engaged. Positioned it to off and oh my, the old gal cranked right up.
