Kubota B21 1997
Hi everyone,

My Kubota B21 has been leaking hydraulic oil on top of the tank for a long time now. I did remove the tank and did not see anything suspicious. Its very hard to detect as the oil accumulates on top of the tank and eventually spills to the ground while working with the tractor.

If this is something you have dealt with before let me know what was the cause.

Thanks in advance!

Etienne

I am not familiar with what you are seeing but I will say no, it should not be leaking and you should be able to locate where it is coming from.

The B21 doesn't have a tank that I am aware of the oil goes in the top of the transmission. Then there is a hyd oil cooler at the radiator. Pictures would help.

Hello Etienne.

I presume you are French- in Quebec or France? Your location isn't critical, but members here are from all over so your location would help.

Regarding your oil tank - yes I know what you refer, and from what I surmise, is there is a leak in the connection to the hydro or other fittings on the top of the tank/transmission.

Messicks.com on line parts diagrams are very good here Kubota B21 Parts Diagrams also a TBN member DF Krug has rebuilt several of the B21 machines.

Sorry I cant be more help - my B21 is 20 years old that I bought new, 700 hours now - no leaks (only some cylinder seals) it has been a great machine.

Hi Carl_NH,

Thanks for your reply. You are right, I'm from Trois-Rivières, Québec. I bought My B21 in 2012 and it had already seen a lot of hard work. It has not stoped since then. It lacks power but I manage to do what I have to do anyway (chipping wood for our blueberry field, blowing snow, etc.). Its so solid...a real tank! Yours is like new with 700 hours, mine stopped counting at 3500 hours.

That leak is the only problem I have. I will put some fluid dye and will have to remove the tank (again) to have a good look.

Thinking of buying a B3030 or a similar model, but if I do I'm afraid that my B21 will be missed!

I know your area well - we have clients in Coaticook, Bromont, Shawinigan and Montreal too - I was last in Three Rivers last December - I get up there every few months but last trip was early March before the shutdown of the border.

Does it leak just sitting or just when running? If sitting, it could be the tank seal/o-ring, if running I would suspect a bad line connection - I am sure you have eliminated the pipe filters/suction hose etc as you can see those connections from the top side.

As far as the 3030 I would look at the B26 TLB first - there are several in Quebec - around $26-30K CDN. There is a big difference in the TLB series vs the B series .

I did change the o-ring and looked at what was accessible when the tank was removed. Seems to leak when working hard with the machine.

As you know, we have good and cold winters up here. The average time to clean up after a snow storm is around 4 hours, so a cab would be nice... very nice ; ) On the other hand, working in the woods with a cab is not my first choice. Sure thing, more hp will really be welcome for snow blowing and chipping. Oh and since I blow snow on my blueberry rows I'm limited to 60" for the width.

That's where I stand for now!
