HI folks, I just bought my first tractor for our 5 acres.. A b7100 4wd It has seen a LOT of neglect.. It came with a box blade and bushhog though for 400 bucks. So anyway IT didnt have a starter and the rubber boot was gone off the shifter, the panel is rigged here ans there and the attachment pin for the hitch ia bent BAD. Also (of course) the steering is stripped in the box and muffler rusted off.. oh yeah and tires.. completely shot.. BUT, i rolled it down a slope after i drug it off the trailer , popped the clutch and low and behold she fires right up like a champ.. I put it in reverse and it went in but had a grinding even with the clutch disengaged but once i left off the clutch it backed right up the hill.. so i look forward to some good discussion and insight as i try to polish the little jewel up this winter. My questions now are 1. Why would it grind with the clutch in and it actually in the gear? 2. When i buy a new boot for the shifter, is it under pressure? I may be missing a part or 2 under it. Shifter seems to operate fine but i see trans fluid sloshing down in the hole.. thanks.in advance
