Does anybody know of the quality of the steering boxes from Kumar, specifically for the kubotas? I have a hydro model b8200 and it needs a replacement or a rebuild. I have attempted to rebuild last spring. it held for a bit then came apart again and did so pretty bad this time (i think i should have went with gear oil instead of grease). i re-welded the ball nut but my confidence is low it will hold therefore i'm looking for other options. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum!

I have a B8200 Hydro also. You could use JD cornhead grease. It barely flows and wont leak. ... Sorry I have no lead on steering boxes, but could you say what is wearing them out? Do you have a loader?

I do have a loader but oddly enough it wasnt being used the second time they wore out, the first time makes sense as i can see how water got down the tube and then into the gear box and i moved ALOT of compost with the tractor prior to the steering quiting on me... although i did do some heaving lifting of my grain platform (no straight lifting as this machine wouldnt be able to do that) on my old JD combine, i dont believe i did a lot of turning but you bring a good point... i may end up doing the JD power steering swap that i've seen on here before..Thanks for your reply

went with the power steering conversion deal that Jay did... it works nice... so easy to turn, even with a loader full

Thanks for checking back. Glad it has worked out well. Do you have a link to the conversion you speak of?

The conversion was the same exact idea that Jay had on here... i went on Ebay and purchased a JD 420 steering column with the valve built in... then i went on Surpluscenter.com and orderded a cylinder (10" cylinder).. i had to drill the hole larger on the tractor frame to fit up then the other end went into the pitman arm... i had a hydraulic shop make up my hoses and help me with the adapters.. i got lucky and everything i got made the first round worked... it wasnt easy but it worked...
