My B20's backhoe is once again acting up. I was merrily digging with the BT650 Auto-Return backhoe when suddenly it stopped swinging. This has happened before and after a rest of an hour or so it once again swings. This time I want to find out just what is causing it to stop swinging - left or right.

I have read that there is a connector near the T handles that becomes corroded. Not so in this case. Wd40 just in case. But the green lighted button lights when depressed - the one for RTD (return to dig) so it looks like it has power.

I need a wiring diagram to check voltages. I have searched the archives and found none. Any help out there?

Here is a possible clue. I was digging today and the swing was working just fine. I was wearing Bermuda shorts and my knee was touching the bolt on the console. I felt a slight shock on my sweaty knee as I was dumping the dirt and when I tried to swing to the left it had failed again. I suspect a bad ground somewhere. I have had the console (on the backhoe) apart to check out the connectors and did not see any grounds inside. The three wires that are in the harness entering the console have a black wire which I suspect may be the ground but they disappear under the fuel tank so I can't see where they go.

PS this has the auto-return "feature" and that is where the electrical issues lie.

This post is weeks old but I can offer a little piece to the puzzle. The shock you got from a system working on 12 volts DC had to come from a solenoid. You speak of an auto return feature and electric lights. If there is a solenoid valve, as the current flows through the solenoid it builds up a magnetic field around the wire windings making up the solenoid coil. When power is suddenly cut off by a switch for example, the magnetic field collapses and can produce voltages of hundreds of volts hence the shock you felt. Is is called "back electromotive force."

Some types of equipment use diodes in parallel with coils or solenoids to damp out the high voltage pulse.

This is an example with a starter solenoid.

Your lack of ground or perhaps a wire rubbed bare and contacting the console, could have allowed you to feel the shock.
