Kubota BX2230 & B2320
Last year I bought a used Bx2230, vintage 2006 or so, with 104 hours. The tractor was garage kept and looked like new, the loader and snow plow were barely used and MMM had never been mounted! The tractor had been serviced at a hundred hours and all the fluids changed. So far I have only put and additional thirty hours or so. At the rate I'm going it will a few years to double the hours from when I bought it. So far I have not had to fix anything. I got to wondering just what longevity I can expect from this tractor before I need to start fixing things? How old, how many hours and what was the first major thing you had to fix on your BX?

It is not a BX...

But I got my old B8200(1985 19hp) used. Sold it a couple years ago after ~800 hours of my use(had 400 hours on it). I know the guy that bought it; he has enjoyed using it, add more than 100 hours.

Except for branches catching rear tail lights, a battery, and tires, the only thing it ever really needed was a Tach cable. Otherwise, it got regular maintenance/fluid changes. The battery and tires, I would consider a consumable.

134 hours, your BX aint even broke in yet! :D

We bought a new BX2200 in 2003 and sold it to our son in law in 2008 with about 600 hours or so. He lets it set out and hasn't serviced it since he bought it and it remains trouble free. He mows a two plus acre lawn and maintains a 600 foot driveway.

I'm no big-time wrench, however, it is my understanding that you should be able to get 10,000 hours out of a diesel engine if it is properly maintained. I think, in most cases, the worse thing you can do for a piece of equipment, is not to use it. Parts rust, tires go flat, seals leak, and mice get in to chew on things. My neighbor has been building a house during the last 10 years and using a Kubota L-35 back hoe that he bought used from a dealer that used it as a rental. The machine is kept outside and looks a little rough on the edges, torn seat and such. The only problems he has had is a flat tire and some leaks on the axle seals.

I bought one of the first BX 2200's in 2000. I traded it on a B2620 in 2009. The tractor had 1257 hours on it-about 1000 hours using the 60"MMM and the rest using the FEL. Besides maintenance service, I had to replace the fuel gauge sending unit-a common problem-, and the 4 power steering hoses. That's it! Never even had to change the battery.

PS- I did change the front tires fter 8 years-they were starting to check.

Will

I bought my BX2230 new in 2005,now has 1100 hours. I have changed the fluids and filters as specified by Kubota and only used their oils and filters. The air cleaner bracket has broken but I was able to fix that. Since then I have replaced the front axle oil seals and O rings last week, have had the parts for a while and She Who Must be Obeyed asked when I was going to do it because she was sick of seeing them sitting in the house. Apart from that have had no problems.I have used the MMM twice as I found it a hassle to attach and remove.I now use the flail mower.Just my:2cents:.

2003 BX1500 bought new.

Consumables: battery, mmm blades, fluids and filters, flasher bulbs.
Repair items: air cleaner bracket, engine counterweight bracket (unique to the BX1500), seat switch, front axle pivot bushings @ 500hrs., power steering hose, front axle drive shaft roll pin.
Damage: flasher lenses, mmm anti-scalp wheel weld, top link.

None of these are particularly unusual except for the roll pin (still haven't figured that one out) and the engine counterweight bracket which you don't have to worry about. The biggest pain was the front axle pivot bushings. You WILL have this issue if you have a FEL. I had to drop the whole axle and take it to the shop to have the bushings replaced. And I'll be doing it again at 1000hrs.

You'll have repairs here and there, especially if you use it heavy, but generally BX models are pretty robust. They are as reliable as they come.

Dad have an 08 with approx 400 hours on it. So far the only issue was the tranny fan. You need to be careful, the transmission fan is underneth and very easy todamaged it your going in the wood a bit, and it is a pain to change as well. So jut make sure it is there and it stays there.
