3-Point Hitch Kubota BX1850 3 Pt leaking down quickly

The 3pt hitch on my BX1850 is leaking down quickly, I could see it slowly lowering when I had my small landscape trailer connected. It was fine another day, and then was leaking down again. I played around with the speed knob, but no difference even if shut off. I don’t think it’s the internal cylinder itself, as it is fine sometimes. What else could I check before tearing into the lift cylinder?

It's the lift cylinder leaking down or a scored needle valve on the lowering rate control which I'd pull first as it's easy to replace and inspect.

Is it easy to get to the needle valve? I definitely would try it first, getting to the cylinder is gonna be a job.

The metering valve (needle valve) will be on the upper side of the rockshaft housing, could be in the front or on the side, depending on model. Probably have to remove the seat to access it. The 'speed knob' as you call it, connects directly to the metering / needle valve.

I will check the service manual to see what it shows, hopefully there’s something in there.
