The thought of having to dig out the stump on one of my ancient Ponderosa pines - makes my knees weak & my head spin. I only cut the ones that have become infected with Pine Bark beetle. The entire tree is then burned.

This is an eight foot chunk out of one of my pines. This chunk was twenty feet up the trunk. The stump was 41" on the butt. It took Mother Nature eleven years to rot out the stump.View attachment 619028 .

If I too awful many like your pictures show - I'd consider dynamite. But then - I guess not. I can see houses in the background. Not a really great idea when you have neighbors.

That seems to be a big arse pone!

Using a proper charge and tamping it could have been shot OK.
Its not having a magazine , inside city limits and finding a place that will actually sell you caps , cord or explosives is the problem and the cost.

My grandparents farm going back years they shot a lot of stumps and rocks. It was easy as driving to the store and picking up what you needed.
That's long gone today!

Good machine with a good operator! Not everyone could accomplish such a feat. Amazing inspirational testimonial to what can be accomplished.
Cheers!

There is no better way to learn how to use a tractor than by actual work, and its limitations.
Little tractors can do a LOT of work!

That reminds me of a story my dad told me a long time ago. We have cottonwood trees here, it is not uncommon for them to get to be a diameter of 6-8 feet or more given enough time and favorable conditions. There's one about 30 miles from where I grew up that 11 people couldn't reach around fingertip to fingertip - big ***** tree. But I stray... They were taking out trees to put in a road. One rookie on the crew was supposed to set dynamite under a stump and blow it. He asked the foreman how much dynamite to use and the foreman said "2". He set up and lit it off. The stump came down several hundred feet away. They asked the rookie how d**n much dynamite he had used. He said "2!" But he meant 2 boxes, not 2 sticks. Luckily, nobody got hurt.
