Is this worth considering as a good deal?

I can buy a used 1992 Kubota front mower with a 25hp diesel engine, 4wd, canopy, 2300 hours, 61"(?) mower, grass collection system in the back, and front blade for $3,000. My initial impression is that it is in good shape. I still need to have a test drive .

I can get his 6.5' x 16' tandem axial trailer with a brake for $400 more.

What should I expect to repair or replace on this type of Kubota? My feeling is that this mower should have a few good years left.

Thanks for all suggestions and comments.

Are you describing an F2560? If so, that is one heck of a deal. Do some more investigating, but that machine is probably worth at least $15K. They are a great amchine if all you intend to do with it is mow grass, blow snow, etc. My F2400 is to older version and I am very pleased with it. The hour meter on the tractor was broken when I bought it but it read approx. 4500 hours. My guess is that it had somewhere around 6000 hours on it. The info I got was that the engines were good for at least 8000 hours. I haven't done any repairs on it except replace the alternator. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Does the mower itself last forever also - or do the bearings, and associated accesories go out routinely at 2000 hours?

Thanks

There are grease nipples on everything so as long as you do the routine maintenance, I don't think you will have a problem. The municipalities and golf courses around here all have fleets of Kubota front mounts so I don't think maintenance is a problem. I checked with both the head groundskeeper at the local university and the greenskeeper at our golf course before I bought mine and both recomended Kubota over the other brands available. I only put about 100 hours a year on my tractor so it doesn't get heavy use, but so far no problems of any kind.

Hi Howard,

I am picking up the mower and trailer tomorow /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

The mower is actually a F2400.

The oil has always been changed every 80 to 100 hours.

The seller was very nice and knowledgeable. He also threw in an extra set of mower blades, tire chains, dozer blade, owners manuals, and mower wheels. The trailer has 4 brand new tires and a 1 year old paint job. He even threw in a couple of cans of touch up paint.

The mower seemed very well maintained and fully functional.
It seemed all very solid and built better than the JD's that I am used to. I guess the 4wd is only really needed when plowing in the winter.

I hope to mow and plow happily ever after.

It still seems like a good deal for $3,400 for both items.

Would you like some pictures after I get situated?

I think you got a real steal, Dave. I paid much more than that for my F2400 but it had a heated cab, a snowblower, a dozer blade and a 60" deck. I just bought a rotary brush for it and I recently converted a 3ph tiller to mount on the front.

One thing you should check fairly soon is the oil level in the final drive for the rear wheels. You have to take the wheels off to get at the filler cap. The seals tend to leak and you don't want to run the gears dry.

The 4wd comes in real handy when mowing sidehills, especially ditch banks.

Good luck.

Hi Howard,

I took your advice and checked the fluid level in the rear drives. I do not have my manual up here and was wondering if 80 or 90 weight oil was ok to fill. Both were so low I could not see any oil.

I bought a couple of replacement tires for the rear and thought I would follow up with the fluid levels while they were no longer concealed.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Yooper Dave
