Has anyone heard about Kubota not manufacturing replacement parts in 10 years for a new tractor that is bought this year?

I think there's a federal law that requires manufacturers to provide parts for some number of years. They can choose to provide them longer.

I hope this isn't true. I've seen this a lot in the automotive world though. Switches for doors on gm cars, instruments clusters, trim pieces, etc.. but, tractors have lots more interchangeable parts than cars so I won't worry for now. When the time comes guess I'll have to upgrade and choose tractor paint color accordingly.

UM... I don't think that on a comparison of GM and Kubota parts that GM would come out on top... by any measure I can think of.

Your right on. Just giving an example. When manufacturers change designs a lot they must make more parts. The more parts they make that are different the more space they need to make and store replacement parts. Soon they run out of room and phase out the parts that fit older cars that they don't sell as much of and only make parts for the ones they sell a lot of. The good news is common parts will be around for a very long time. Tractors have lots of interchangeable parts. Although my example was for GM the same applies to all makes and models. Just take a look around. I bet you can find almost every part for every tractor ever built. I wouldn't sweat it. I plan on keeping my BX24 for at least 30 years. If I buy more land then I might have to get something bigger to go with the lil' 'bota. However this rumor did happen to be true(which I doubt) then I'd look for a manufaturer that keeps stuff around a little longer than 10 years.

this is passed around in non-tractor circles too. it's probably founded in some "truth" as already mentioned, like a requirement by law or something. but otherwise it isn't anything that typically has any significant impact on any industry among which i've heard. i would completely write it off (and have before).
there are some older vehicles that parts aren't made for any more, but they are very old and not popular. the nature of industry has changed completely, 180 degrees in 20 years. the numbers are phenomenal. in the 80's companies bread and butter was their product (in terms of profit, not revenue), now it's service and parts. the industry has been turned upside down in those terms - sales and service are MONEY for profit. so yeah, parts are very valuable to an industry, not just you.

Much to my astonishment I discovered a couple of years ago that you could not get armrests for the 1998 Chevy P/U with manual windows. Had to go to a junk yard and get armrests for an 8 year old truck. Very difficult to find as almost none of the 1992-98 Chevy trucks have the drivers side armrests intact.
I think the parts man said they stopped making them a year or two before I tried to replace it.

Are you talking about the armrest on the LEFT side of the drivers seat? that is attached to the drivers seat? Sweetest thing around, our 92 Suburban had one. Just had to make sure you pulled it up before you got out or you'd get a rib poke. You can try ordering the left side passenger armrest. My guess it is the same.
