I have been shopping for a lawn tractor, and I have it narrowed down to Kubota G6200 for $1400 (asking) and a IH Cub Cadet 982 for $1000. The Kubota is in decent shape - the diesel runs well, the 40" (yes, 40") deck is heavy and solid. However, the fiberglass body has one long crack above the left footboard, and small cracks in other places in places, the metal hood is dinged, and it has been spray can painted. The 982 is in original condition, the Onan runs well, has a solid 60" Woods deck and was owned by a tractor dealer mechanic. It does not have a 3pt or PTO. The G6200 is foot-pedal controlled, and the 982 is lever.
I like the 982 a bit more because it is bigger (and more than a lawn mower), and original - no surprises. However, I did not see any mechanical faults with the Kubota, and the diesel/deck combo should last a long time. I probably would get much less scalping with the 40" deck, but i also have over 2 acres to mow.
I just saw a garage baby Toro 520H with 400+ hours on it with a deck, blade and blower for $1500.......uh oh.
Yikes....this is a tough choice for me. Any suggestions, or help?
