Kubota B8200
Apologies in advance for my woefully poor knowledge base. we sent our B8200 Kubota to the dealer for diagnostics/repair of loader that quit working. A few days later we get the call it was all repaired…water in hydraulics and they dumped the water and oil mix, cleaned filters and the bill was 575.00 plus cost to haul in for a total of $806. We get tractor home, start it drive 50 feet and have no hydraulics in the loader. Back to dealer it goes….

Now we just get a call that it needs a new hydraulic pump for $2000….so, I’m wondering if that seems a reasonable price and what if any consideration should the dealer give me for the first failed repair

A new pump is $820 at Messicks or about $350 on another places. I say you may need a new dealer that will actually troubleshoot the issue you're having, instead of throwing parts at it at your cost without guarantee of it fixing the tractor.

How labor intensive is it to replace the hydraulic pump? Sounds like I may be getting the run around. all the dealers were bought up by the same large company so I’m going to have to find someone with Kubota connections but not a dealer.

From some pictures of the tractor. the hydraulic pump is easily accessible from the side of the engine, only requires about 4 bolts and two hard lines to pull out. It may also require move some fuel lines and fuel filter housing out of the way, simple stuff. I would say probably 2 hours for an honest dealer.

Make sure the hydraulic diverter valve near your right heel isnt turned off or even slightly off. It makes the loader not work.

Updated info….when went went to pay our bill #2 the service manager was a bit intimidating…”not our fault there’s water in the hydraulics” …which I never said it was…I just told him he shouldn’t have sent the tractor home without resolving the issue or contacting us with the information needed to make a decision on what’s next. $1100 dollars out and the tractor is coming back in the same shape it left in… The alarming part was he said we would now have “all kinds of problems” related to the water in the hydraulic system and at least inferring there was going to be widespread issues…but the sales Dept would give us $1500 trade in on a new tractor. So, I’m back here, hat in hand trying to ascertain if there are indeed multiple areas within the hydraulic system that have may have been badly damaged or may, cause catastrophic failures To the tractor in some other way. Again I apologize for my lack of knowledge regarding just how deeply hydraulics interface with the rest of the tractor operation. The tractor runs like a top,and has been troublefree.

As an aside this little tractor is bringing around $4500 bare and $6500-7500 with a loader. I was planning on putting it up for sale for $3500 & loader comes for free. That is based on the brand new rear tires and custom rims, weighted beet juice? relined gas tank, all fluid and services done, new hydraulic hoses, rebuilt water pump, replaced front wheel seal and more that was done with by a company who did do service right. would that be a fair price point? I woukd want to give the potential buyer the ability to repair and still have positive equity. if in fact this tractor could suffer some catastrophic failure I’d have to rethink the ethical thing to do. Thank you for all your guidance.

Is this a gear drive or hydrostatic transmission? With gear drive would be small chance of water causing ongoing catastrophic failures. If hydrostatic there would be greater chance of problems but doubtful on catastrophic since there is no mention of any problems other than the loader operation.

Just saw this thread.

You don't say where you are, but here on the left coast, I would sell that tractor with all those repairs for $9K with loader, even if it has gear trans.

I bought a cheap B8200 off a friend just a couple of years ago, and it had water in the oil, and needed some other minor repairs. Looked rough, non-working hour meter, and undesirable gear trans. I got it going again, but it still looked bad. Sold it to another friend, cheap. A month later, the hydraulics quit. Just before the friend's mechanic gives up and buys a new hyd pump, the problem is discovered: a speck of dirt in the RV.

Surprisingly, the hydraulics on the gear drive Bs of this era (late 80s) have no real filtration. Just a suction filter mesh. Ugh.
