John, I don't know which Kubota you have. The manual for the 1995 B7100 called for Kubota UDT or (and listed several others by brand name). If you search the old archives, you should find a list of them. Now, apparently the newer Kubota manuals only specify UDT or Super UDT. And of course, a lot of folks are now changing to the synthetic fluids.

I sorta like to stay with the manufacturer's recommendations, but at the same time, I'd bet you have no problem with the universal fluid you used; however, I just don't see any reason to take the chance myself.

I ordered my UDT fluid for my 50 hour change and waited for my dealer to get in a new supply. I was not supprised when the clerk brought out the two 5 gallons cans of Mobile 424. I have to wonder how many dealers use Kubota UDT brand fluid? This hydraulic and transmission oil is listed for a dozen different tractors. This oil discussion reminds me of an argument several years ago about using "brand name gasoline" in your car. The off-brand gasoline would "ruin your engine" Now thats the majority of the gas sold.

PA, John, I really think you're right. In fact, when I checked with a couple of Kubota dealers about the Super UDT and found they don't even stock it; will only special order it if a customer wants it, one of them told me they don't even use the UDT (even though they stock and sell it). Unless the customer specifies Kubota UDT, they use another cheaper brand (I've forgotten the name, but had never heard of it at the time). The problem is that, unless I know the specs and am pretty darned sure they're the same, then I tend to go with the manufacturer's recommendation because I would really hate to damage my equipment, and would hate it even more if I damaged it and the manufacturer had a way to avoid it being considered under warranty.
