Kubota insurance scam

I was recently arrested for a Kubota that I purchased from a individual.i wasn't aware that it had been reported stolen by them on 10/5/2017 but in my paperwork is a reciept where tires and insurance was bought on 10/12/2017 how do you buy tires and insurance for a machine that you say is stolen a week prior and Kubota insurance not dealer caught this and paid out.

as to how...
reported stolen on the 5th returned by to him by his son on the 7th who had taken it for a joy ride. He did not want his little 'snowflake' to have a record so he never reported to the police he had it back and the police never investigated the 'crime'. Owner bought tires and insurance on the 17th and life went merrily on.
