I have a 1986 Kubota L2250 4 wheel drive and I cannot get the PTO to engage. The pto has not been used in years and I cannot get it to engage at all with the engine running or not and with the clutch depressed or not. The engagement lever plunger will not move at all. Any ideas without tearing into the transmission? Thanks Mike

Sounds like it is stuck from lack of use. What methods have you tried? Often it takes a while to free up this type of thing, but eventually it goes. Are you the original owner? If not, do you know if the original owner used the PTO?

My suggestion is to trace the linkage from the fender to the tranny. You might find connections that are rusted together. I would spray wd-40 on every joint you can find and gently try working the linkage until it loosens up. You might have to undo each linkage connection and make sure that is loose and then go to the next point. I found that by using the parts list on J

On my L2050DT I have to be in neutral in everything to engage my PTO. Before I used it much I'd kinda engage/disengage the transmission and 4wd around until I hit a clear neutral position and the PTO would cooperate. Any strain against anything will interfere even now.

Use penetrating oil around the engagement knob/lever, which has some parts in there that rust and bind up. Take off the little plate(s) (see attacment) so the spray gets in everywhere. The rest of the linkage beyond/below that is inside the transmission and usually ok.

Hey Guys, OK, I finally got the PTO lever to engage in hi and low. But now I can only actually use the PTO by shutting down the engine and starting the engine with the PTO already engaged. BTW, I'm depressing the clutch all the way down while cranking. Even with the clutch fully depressed, the PTO grinds as if the clutch is not depressed at all and won't engage. Don't like to use the PTO this way because it seems to really load the engine as it is starting, all seems to be fine after the rpm gets up. Apparently, the two stage clutch is not doing it's job to disengage the PTO as it should. I think that either I don't have a two stage clutch or it is not adjusted/working as it should. Do all these L2250's have two stage clutches and if not does anyone know the correct way to engage and disengage the PTO properly without a two stage clutch? thanks Mike
