Hi. This is Mrs. Keno. I looked at a Kubota L240 yesterday for my husband. It has Chinese writing on it and it doesn't run. What can you tell me about this little tractor? and now this is mr. keno...the tractor belongs to a friend that we happened to visit yesterday ...I didn't even know he had a tractor...anyway it's a grey market kubota L 240 and the owner wasn't home to answer any question but....my question is.....I've heard sooooooo much bad about grey market stuff..has anyone out there gotten a kubota grey and tried to get parts etc?some times I think it's the dealers that don't want these tractors on the market..nothing wrong with that but I can't help but wonder if these tractors were built somewhere then there must but replacement parts somewhere......donn't get mad at me for saying this ...Im just trying to learn what is going on and don't have a pile of money to go out and buy what I'd really like to get...and that would be something fairly big with plenty of power with lots of implements and a credit card for the fuel........thanks for any comments ken

"It has Chinese writing on it and it doesn't run"

I'd say it was a typical Chinese product /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Other than being a smart ***, I know nothing about the machine.

Mrs. Keno, are you sure it is chinese? Grey market tractors have warning and caution symbols in they're text too. If you love your husband, don't go back, on the other hand--

I'll bet that writing is Japanese instead of Chinese (of course I wouldn't be able to tell the difference either since I can read either of them), and yes, the L240 is a gray market tractor that is not supported by Kubota dealers. Personally, I would be very leary of gray market tractors, but you'll find a number of our forum members own and love them. If you do your own work, or find a gray market dealer, or use an independent mechanic, you may be able to obtain any needed parts. In many cases, parts are the same as (or interchangeable with) parts for similar models that are not gray market. I'm not familiar with the L240, but in this case, I'm wondering whether a lot of the parts might not be interchangeable with the L245. I have a friend who has had his L245 for over 25 years; says he seldom uses it anymore, since he doesn't live on an acreage anymore, but wouldn't part with it; still uses it to launch his boat. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I own a grey market L2201DT. Almost identical to the American L245DT. Have ordered many parts right from Kubota dealers for the American version. I did have to order a part for the PTO from a tractor importer in Mississippi because the PTO gears are different , but , had no problem what so ever finding it . You should check the Kubota web site to determine if it actually is a grey market model. I am unfamiliar with the L240. Mine has the Japanese writing on it too. Also do a search for Whitehorse . They is a Kubota grey market dealer in Canada that can supply parts for these . They were helpful to me .
If it doesn't run , why ? Whats wrong with it ?

I went to the Kubota web site and confirmed that the L240 is a grey model.
