I'm going to my dealer today, hopefully, they'll have a parts breakdown or something. If there's no diaphragm to replace,I might need new injectors.

I went to my dealer, talked to the mechanic, and he says that it could be the injectors. He advised me to change the oil and see if it got fuel in it again. He said the injector could have possibly been stuck(trash in it).I changed the oil, filter, and fuel filter.I fired it up, bled the air, and it seemed to run o.k.After running it for just a minute or two, I checked the dipstick. The oil seemed to be very thin again.I checked my service manual and decided to test the injectors. It said to start the engine, and at low idle crack the union where the high pressure lines connect to the injectors. It said the faulty injector would be the one that had the least affect on engine performance. The first two injectors killed the engine almost immediately when I cracked them. The third one, however , had no effect on the engine.I'm assuming this injector is bad, so I'm going to replace all three.(the tractor has 990hours)Is this a big deal to do? Where is a good online source to order these injectors? Thanks for any info.

Check your yellow pages you may be able to find a local injection pump and injector rebuilder.

That is the best bet. A local shop can test your injectors and tell you right away if any of them are the problem.

I would think a slobbering injector would cause the engine to emit a lot of black smoke. How does the exhaust look when it's running?

It smokes black, especially when you first start it.If I replace the injector, should I replace all 3,or just the one that I suspect is bad?

According to a parts breakdown that I got , one of the injectors, (the one toward the front of the tractor) has a different part number than the other two.Was this true with yours?

Today I took my suspect injector out.I decided to take it apart, this is when I discovered a build up of carbon on the tip.I managed to get the injector all the way apart, then I cleaned it with brake parts cleaner, an old toothbrush, and clean diesel fuel.I figured I might as well try putting it back together before I ordered new injectors. As soon as the engine started, I realized that I had fixed my problem.Apparantly, my tractor has been pretty much running on two cylinders ever since I got it about 4 years ago.It started much easier, didn't smoke as bad, and the engine revved much better than it ever has.It sounded completely different.I decided to grade my driveway to try it out.I was able to do it in high range. When I finished, I drove it back to my shop in high range third. Before, it would hardly pull itself in high.I've got a whole new tractor. Now, instead of selling it and going in debt for a new one, I think I'll keep it awhile , since it's paid for.

A very usefull tip here. Glad you got your problem worked out.

But a couple followups...I would only replace the 1 injector. Actually the top is the meat and potatoes of the injector. The rest is basically a spring and shims. Very smart to clean with a toothbrush. Many will make the mistake and use a wire brush...worse a wire brush on a grinder. The holes are fine enough to be damaged by this action.

Glad you are going to keep it!!
