KABOTA L2500
I have a L2500 kubota that was given to my by a family member. Just prior to me getting it the hydraulic steering went out and the steering was hard to turn. At that point the bucket would still respond to movement. Several days later the hydraulics completely went out and fluid started pouring out the side of the tractor (towards the rear of the tractor) the engine also was filled with hydralic fluid to the point of coming out the dip stick. Any suggestions on where to start looking. Hopefully it's just a stuck pressure relief valve but I have no clue. I have the manual and all the tools to fix it I just don't know where to start looking. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

You have a failed seal in the hydraulic pump. I'd take it to an authorized dealer and have them do the repair. The pumps are complex and require in the least a shop manual (Kubota WSM) to even take apart. A bit beyond the 'backyard mechanic' to even undertake. It's 'Kubota', not Kabota, btw.

Indeed looks like the shaft seal on the hydraulic pump.

It's a simple repair as long as you keep track of the position of the other seals on the pump, they are shaped like the number 3. It's a simple hydraulic gear pump, not complex at all. Again, just pay attention to the position of the seals cause it's possible to rotate the entire cartridge 180 degrees and then you have fluid coming out the wrong place again.

Make sure everything is clean. I like to just coat all the seals with a little bit of oil and also the bushings inside so it doesn't start completely dry.

Here is some more info.. my uncle owned the tractor. He bought it new from the dealer years ago. He always used it hard. He would let me borrow it anytime I need to do work around my property. In the early years the tractors hydraulics were very strong. I never had issues digging or picking up heavy loads. As the years went by it just seemed that the hydraulics weren't as strong as when it was newer. The bucket was slower to respond and it just seemed like the lift capacity went down. Is this more signs of another issue with the hydraulic system or just normal wear and tear on the system and general signs of the pump going out over time?

I believe those tractors also had an hydraulic strainer/screen inside the transmission on the oil pick up for the hydraulic pump. It can get clogged over time and will slow things down a lot.

Is there a way to verify this?

Should I remove the priority valve on the machine and make sure there is no bad seals or stuck valves?
