Tractor Sizing Kubota L2501 vs L3301

...and my L2800 was the smallest L in previous generation to yours... :) I really wonder about the L2501... what RPM it is when it's wide open throttle? ...could it be that it's just de-rated?

PTO would still have to be 540 so it's got to be "geared" differently...

From another thread with a similar title:

I should note that I have not driven an L2501. The engine is actually a slightly larger 3-cylinder than in my L3200, despite the lower HP, and it makes its rated power at 2200 rpm versus 2800 rpm on my L3200. So it may be that the L2501 is a de-rated "sleeper" with gobs more torque down low to make up for the HP rating. I would not at all be surprised if this was a clever strategy on Kubota's part to meet Tier IV final requirements but still offer a tractor with good performance. I'd want to drive both L2501/3301 back to back to see how they feel.

s219's post above makes a good point to take into consideration- torque is what moves the tractor, so don't get too fixated on hp alone. I haven't found any torque specs published, though, so I guess you have to extrapolate based on size and rated hp rpm. If you can drive your considered choices back to back, even scooping up some dirt from a pile, which many dealers seem to have for that purpose, then perhaps you will feel like you are making an informed decision?
Having said that, I don't think I have ever used my L3400 and considered it as having more power than I needed or wanted.

Same situation here, have 33 acres, was leaning heavily towards the L3301, but dealer encouraged me to get the L2501 as its engine is all mechanical. Since it's same chassis not a huge amount of difference. Made me a great deal today, delivering tomorrow. FEL, 5 mover/box blade.

Let us know how it is on power... Not that I'll trade mine in but I would serious look at one if I was in the market again.

View attachment 417065 My new 3301. I'm not to concerned about the tier iv, it is here to stay. I will say this is a very smooth operating tractor and fun to use. Very quick and responsive fel, also. I went with the gear drive, shuttle shift. Lots of straight up power.

How has your L3301 been working out since that post? Still happy? Any TIER IV or other issues?
