Kubota L260
My tractor is an old Kubota L260 made in the 70's as one of the early models, bit goofy and hard to find parts for, haven't talked to the dealer but will probably call soon as the brakes are squeaking way worse than they have been... they work on both sides but squeak bad and are grabby so I think it's steel on steel... but it was also sitting for about 3 months so could have been rust buildup, after some working yesterday I don't think it squeaked as bad...

Anyone familiar with this beast? How bad are the brakes to do? A quick google search isn't showing much... is it a drain all fluids and remove the final drives and split the transmission deal or is it just removing the final drives? I could jump right in but would rather have an idea and would like to not waste time...

I do conveniently have some spare parts, found most of one at an auction so I have the transmission and final drives and I think the pedals but don't remember.

Have you owned the tractor long? When was the last time the fluid was changed? I'm assuming the brakes are wet-type? I had an issue with my L3400 after using cheap UTF which I believe lacked the proper additives to prevent brake "chatter". A dealer changed the fluid with Kubota super UDT and told me the noise and chatter would go away on its own as my brakes were not worn out. I considered splitting it to replace the brakes until I took a gamble on some John Deere wet brake additive. After pouring in 12 oz, the squealing started to quiet after the first time using the brakes and within 15 minutes it was gone. I bought 5 bottles but only needed one because it treats a lot of fluid.

It's worth a try.

Thanks for the input, and for the manual! Just went out and looked at the tractor and it's more obvious than I thought... take off 4 bolts and it should be pretty obvious...

If the weather isn't as bad as it's supposed to be I'll have a look at them, who knows the last time they were even looked at.

Last time I looked at this post there weren't any replies, and forgot to look again, maybe I'll get a picture or two when I get to the investigation point.
