I am looking at installing tire chains on my rear R4s. Anyone install chains on a L3400? If so, was there enough clearance or were wheel spacers required? Any info is appreciated. -MJ
I had a set of semi truck chains that I shortened up for the rear. This is the second year I've used them. Trick is no extra links on the inside, it's tight but works fine with no spacers.Just keep them tight.
Hi guys, I ended up getting a pair of chains from an old 8N that I shortened and made a spring tensioner system from some springs and a piece of old chain I had around. Looks and works great. Only have about 1/4" clearance between chain and frame when moving though..... Wheel spacers might be in my future just to be safe!
Yup, take a look. I think it turned out very similar to the chain tensioners I almost bought on tirechains.com. Now I need to ask a buddy to use his machine shop to make my own spacers (as opposed to the $350 I was quoted to buy a set).
Each cross chain ended up crossing one lug of the R4s so there will be one solid point of contact for each cross chain. Now I need some snow and I'll report the increase in traction!
