Well folks my old 8N just gave up the ghost and it is time to upgrade. I am looking at a new L3400dt but really know nothing about these machines other than what I have read here, elsewhere and been told by the salesmen. I am being quoted $23900 Cdn including an LA463 loader and 72" series blade and half the first service. I need it to upkeep about 13 acres of paddocks and lawns with a bit of brush area to add variety. As I said I am new at all this fancy machinery so please help me out if you can. Suggestions on if this is a fair price or where I might look for a better deal would be appreciated!

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I have seen post on TBN with a L3400HST & FEL, priced here in the states at $17000. Your price seems high. However, that may be the going price in Canada. Dose your price include taxes?

I've just gone through this process in BC, Silverfox. As part of the selection process I got the following quotes:
L3400HST - 21,200
LA513 FEL - 4,650
BH75 - 8,470
TOTAL 30,950 (plus taxes and delivery).

List for these is 34,320 so dealer was discounting by 3,370 for cash sale.

I eventually paid 38,250 (inc. taxes and delivery) for L3130HST with BH90 backhoe and LA723 loader. Delivery to be made next week.

Hope this helps.

Silverfox, I think that price is on the high side. I paid less than that for my L3130 HST with loaded R4 tires, LA723 Loader and balast box. You should be able to find a really good used HD 72" blade for between $300 - $400. You may want to go to the Farm Equipment show in Woodstock and the International Plowing Match in Listowel. I made a verbal deal for mine at last years Plowing Match. Then shopped some more and then signed last October. I would think with our stonger dollar prices should be lower this year,

I assuming you live in Onatrio. Kubota may also have a Canadian fall flyer like they did last fall.

Thanks for the quick replies! I live in BC and have a dealer not too far away. I have noticed quite a few people opting for the L3130 over the L3400 and also going to HST over the DT. Would someone mind explaining the pros and cons of each?

Best way to experience the two machines is to drive them. I tested both in the dealer's yard (Avenue Machinery Corp in Abbotsford who were terrific). The two machines I thought were like night and day. The 3130, despite having a couple less hp, felt far bigger, more robust and more tractorlike than the 3400. The engine was much smoother and quieter and the capacity of the machine in terms of FEL's and backhoes I believe is also much better. The HST transmission is great. Sit on the tractor, set the hand throttle, select high, medium or low gear then do everything else from the single pedal via a toe and heel arrangement - toe to go forward, heel backwards - no gears to change or clutches to engage to go from forward to reverse. Additionally, the amount of speed control was terrific, with infinite speed variability from a dead slow crawl to a fast run. I thought the difference in price was light for such a marked difference in feel between the two machines. I was glad to go the extra distance and having got quotes and tried the JD and NH machines, think I got a great buy and a very good tractor. I can't wait for delivery.

Big boys' toys . . .
