My L3400HST is not moving in the forward direction as fast as it used to. It seems to be moving in the reverse direction just as before, but going forward is slower. The tractor only has 85 hours on it and the fluids/filters were changed at 50 hours. I have looked at the linkage to the transmission, but I have not seen any easy adjustment points. Also, my cruise control has stopped functioning. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi, if it's a hydrostatic transmission I would check that fluid level right off the bat, even if the dealer did change it out recently.
Just a thought.

Merry Christmas!

Few questions... ;) What range is this happening in? Low, Med. or High - Any chance that you are in "High" range vs. "Medium" range? or Does it lose power in each range?

Does Cruise not hold position? Does it work if you hold your hand to keep the lever in one place? or does the lever not do anything??? (might be related to power lost). Let us know...

Do you have a front end loader and is it operating smoothly.

I had a problem with my L3400 acting somewhat the same way and the loader operation was erratic.

It turned out to be a crack in the hydraulic return line near your right foot platform. I still haven't replaced it but a little majic tape has confirmed the problem and gotten my by for now.

The cruise control may just be a bit loose.

Have a look at this thread

With the cracked return hose, I think it mostly effected the steering and the FEL... not sure I remember anyone saying it effected the HST drive... BUT it doesn't seem like that would be out of the question. How's the steering and FEL, any jerkiness?

Incidentally, the hose we're talking about is actually the suction hose for the pump. That's why a crack causes so many problems since the pump is able to suck in air instead of solid oil. It's also why you'll never see one leak, since it's never under pressure at all.

I replaced mine a few months ago, it was about $30 which included new clamps.

I THINK the HST version has it's own internal pump for the drive, however, if the fluid was badly aerated from a bad suction hose it would affect the HST pump as well.
