Kubota L3800 vs Mahindra 3616?

I have an old AC and John Deere two wheel drive tractors now but am wanting to trade the AC 6140 in on a 4WD that is more sized to what we need for vegetable farming.

Main use would be pulling a plastic mulch layer for vegetable farming as well as a water wheel trans-planter for the vegetables. (requires 30-35 HP) Both have a real nice slow low gear for this. Then some cultivating between the plastic rows and other vegetable rows (without the plastic) .

Secondary uses: Brush hogging pastures, helping clear some wood lots for sivla pasturing (pasturing in grassy wooded areas) for the pigs and cattle. Some loader and back hoe work as needed. Planting cover crops (spinner spreader or grain drill) and tilling with a 6 foot tiller. Probably 1000's of things not yet thought of.

Want this machine to be at the job for the next 10-20 years. What do you think?

I have a L3700SU which is basically the same as the L3800. It is a decent tractor, I think the loader could be stronger and the 3point hitch is jerky but it is built well and I have no mechanical issues to report ( it did break the backhoe pin and it was replaced under warranty) I'm 6-2" and there is plenty of room in the operator station. I looked at a Mahindra and noticed the seat area was cramped. I hear the Mahindra is a good quality machine and priced a bit below a Bota. I would drive and operate them both and see what you like.

When I was looking for my tractor I had to make that same decision between those two tractors. I would up buying the Kubota. I just liked the dealer and tractor experience better. Not a knock on anyone, since it was such a hard decision.

I was looking at these two tractors a couple years ago and bought a L3800DT. Great tractor and no jerky 3 pt hitch. No regrets what so ever!

Blugill2, how slow will your DT model go? or would he be better served with a Hydrostat model for his mulch laying needs?.. If you do a lot of loader work of have need to go very slow or speed up and slow down all the time, I would think the Hydro model would suit you best.. I sure like a hydro for loader work and rock work when I set rocks for building rock walls. You can really creep with a hydro, without wearing out a clutch.

So slow I rarely use 1st gear in Low range. I'm not going to knock HST anymore, because it works for so many folks. But I personally do not like HST.

I just wan't sure how the L3800DT model was geared. My old B7500DT could have had more gear ranges, It was a 6x2 not an 8x2 so there was some compromises.
